What Are Migraines & Other Headaches?

Migraines often bring additional symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and heightened sensitivity to light, sound, or smell. Alongside these classic migraine features, individuals may experience lightheadedness, blurry vision, and, in some cases, neurological warning signs known as auras. Auras, occurring 10 to 15 minutes before an attack, manifest as flashes of light, tingling sensations, or speech problems. Notably, migraines can persist from a few hours to several days.

In addition to migraines, various types of headaches exist, ranging in severity. Tension headaches, for instance, are characterized by a steady, dull ache on both sides of the head, often accompanied by muscle tenderness. Cluster headaches, less common but intensely painful, occur in cyclical patterns and cause severe, piercing pain, usually around one eye. Sinus headaches, associated with sinusitis, bring deep, constant pain in the forehead, cheekbones, or bridge of the nose. Regardless of the type, Swift Star’s board-certified emergency physicians specialize in addressing a spectrum of headaches, ensuring effective care for all levels of severity.
